Ask how they'll get in
A proper locksmith tries to open it without damage and tells you before drilling anything.
Expect to show ID
Someone who'll open any door for anybody isn't someone you want.
Get a receipt
Business name and address on it. Your insurer might ask for it.

Depends on the lock, the time and whether anything needs replacing. You'll get the price on the phone before anyone sets off, so there's no nasty surprise on the doorstep.
How quickly can someone get to me?
Ask when you ring. You'll get an honest time for where you are, not a number that just sounds good.
Will they have to drill the lock?
Usually not. Most doors open without damage. If a lock does need drilling or replacing, they'll tell you why, and what it'll cost, first.
I rent. Can I still ring?
Course you can. It's worth letting your landlord or letting agent know, and checking your tenancy before any locks get changed.
